Regents: No hurry on community college service areas

Higher education officials on Wednesday showed no interest in making any quick changes to the service areas for the state's community college system.

Board of Regents President and CEO Blake Flanders said more research is needed before any changes can be made to the service area policy, which was first broached by the Kansas State Board of Education.

"I don't think the policy needs to be changed right now," Flanders told the board's governance committee on Wednesday.

Members of the committee generally agreed, saying they want more information about how the service areas might be limiting access . . .
