Outgoing state Rep. Tom Cox plans to join Capitol Strategies, one of the most established lobbying firms in Topeka after wrapping up his term in the Legislature.

Cox, a Republican, is leaving the Legislature after serving two terms in the Kansas House. He ran unsuccessfully for the state Senate last summer.

He will join the lobbying firm this January after his term as a legislator ends.

While serving in the House, Cox served as vice chair of the Insurance Committee. He also served on committees overseeing financial institutions, utilities and transportation.

He has bachelor’s degrees in political science and history from the University of Kansas and a master’s in journalism and mass communications from KU.

“We are delighted to welcome Tox Cox to our organization and believe his ability to work across party lines and political philosophies will serve our clients well,” said Bill Brady, managing partner of Capitol Strategies.

The firm was founded in 1976 as Kansas Governmental Consulting by senior partner John Peterson.

“Tom Cox will enhance our organization’s continued ability to serve our clients and communicate their decision to Capitol decision makers,” Peterson said in a statement.
