Legislature passes compromise tax bill that governor will sign

The Kansas Legislature on Tuesday voted to pass a compromise tax bill that will provide an estimated $1.2 billion in tax cuts over three years, but critics said it didn't go far enough given how much the state is holding in reserve.

The Senate and House overwhelmingly passed a bill that moves the state to a two-tiered income tax structure.

It cuts taxes on income, eliminates taxes on Social Security and provides some property tax relief, although not as much as previous tax bills . . .
