Thomas Michael Wasinger, 74, of Hays, died Saturday, May 2 in Winter Park, Florida.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 12 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th St. in Hays.

Tuesday’s visitation will be 9 a.m. from 10 a.m. at Keithley Funeral Homes-Brock’s Chapel 2509 Vine Street in Hays.

The Wasingers have lived in Hays for four decades.

He and Barb were married for nearly 45 years.

They are local small business owners and have four adult children: Matt, Drew, Anne Marie and Mark.

He is also survived by his five grandchildren — Gentry, Isabella, Grace, Michael, and Lily — along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Together, the Wasinger’s owned Ellis County Abstract and Title LLC in Hays, as well as W.T.C. Enterprises LC, a property management firm.

“There are no words. Love you, Tom. Can’t believe you are gone,” the lawmaker posted on Facebook.

Wasinger was remembered in his obituary as a “gentle giant” who worked tirelessly to provide a life for his family that he did not have growing up.

“He was a source of guidance and wisdom to his children. He was Barb’s greatest advocate, celebrating every accomplishment and every election she won with unwavering pride.

“His grandchildren adored their Papa, and any time spent with them or watching them grow brought him immense joy.

“His contributions to his church, school, and community were often quiet and humble, done without seeking recognition.

“He was a pillar of his community, someone people relied on without hesitation. His presence, humor, stubbornness, and deep loyalty were unmistakable to all who knew him.”

Wasinger earned a bachelor’ and law degree from Notre Dame.

“He grew up a devoted Notre Dame fan and remained one throughout his life, carrying that loyalty with him long after his years on campus,” his obituary said.
