Attorney General Kris Kobach's office is seeking to expand the power of the Medicaid inspector general to investigate welfare benefits including cash, food and health assistance.
Appearing before the Senate health committee on Monday, Inspector General Steven Anderson asked lawmakers to broaden his authority to investigate public assistance fraud beyond the state's $4 billion Medicaid program
Currently, Anderson is limited to investigating the state's Medicaid, MediKan and the Children's Health Insurance programs.
