Gov. Laura Kelly on Wednesday named the general counsel from the state Revenue Department to a district court judgeship in Shawnee County.
Kelly appointed Jay D. Befort of Topeka to a judgeship position in the Third Judicial District, which covers Shawnee County.
He replaces Rachel Pickering, who was appointed to the Kansas Court of Appeals.
“Jay has had a long history of advocating on behalf of Kansans in Topeka,” Kelly said in a statement.
