KDOT rounding out top management staff

Interim Kansas Transportation Secretary Julie Lorenz is lining up her top management staff at the agency.

Lorenz is bringing back highway department veterans Maggie Doll, Lindsey Douglas and Burt Morey.

Doll, who worked two stints at the Kansas Department of Transportation from 2002 to 2008 and again from 2010 to 2012, is joining the department as Lorenz’s chief of staff.

She is coming back to the highway department from Burns & McDonnell, where she worked as a strategic consultant.

She also worked as a senior communications specialist for Parsons Brinckerhoff and communications director for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Also returning to the department is Morey, who worked most recently for Overland Park as its city engineer. He has been tapped as deputy secretary/state transportation engineer.

Morey worked at KDOT from 2003 to 2015, holding a variety of positions including special project engineer, metro engineer and assistant district construction engineer

Meanwhile, Douglas has been named deputy secretary for legislative and fiscal affairs.

Lindsey Douglas

She is moving over to the highway department from Union Pacific, where she worked as senior director of public affairs for Arizona, Kansas and Missouri.

She worked as the director of state relations for the University of Kansas and chief of policy and legislative affairs for the Transportation Department from 2010 to 2014.

Douglas also served as an environmental policy specialist for the Kansas Department of Agriculture in 2008 and 2009.

She has a master’s in environmental law from Vermont Law School and a bachelor’s in public administration, environment and natural resource management from Washburn University.
