Kansas records lowest primary voter turnout since at least ’16

With no high-profile elections on the statewide ballot this year, Kansas saw the lowest primary voter turnout since at least 2016.

The secretary of state reported that 336,139 votes were cast Aug. 6 for a turnout of 16.9%, the lowest since at least 2016 when 24% of voters cast ballots.

It was a significant drop from 2022, when the state set a new record turnout of 48% when the abortion amendment was on the primary ballot.

Two years ago, 939,371 people cast a vote during the primary election, shattering the previous primary record of 532,000 . . .
