Gov. Laura Kelly said Wednesday that independent investigators are examining a grant program that came under scrutiny when a former Commerce official who vanished and was later found dead made accusations about how the funds were awarded.
Talking to reporters Wednesday in Olathe after a ceremonial signing of the tax bill, Kelly said her administration is conducting an investigation to ensure that the so-called BASE grants - short for Building a Strong Economy - were awarded appropriately.
