Hensley calls out Colyer

Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley got a head start in advance of Republican Gov. Jeff Colyer’s visit to Pittsburg on Wednesday to announce improvements to U.S. 69.

Anthony Hensley

On Tuesday, Hensley called it a “fraudulent election-year tactic” to help Republican state Sen. Richard Hilderbrand, who is in a special election against Democrat Bryan Hoffman.

Hensley alluded to how former Gov. Sam Brownback delayed two dozen highway project in 2016 except one: U.S. 69. At the time, Democrats  charged that Brownback proceeded with the U.S. 69 work to help Sen. Jake LaTurner of Pittsburg get re-elected.

Hensley points out that Hilderbrand voted against more money for highways as well as the task force created to develop a new multi-year transportation plan.

Here’s more coverage from The Capital-Journal and WIBW.

The Topeka Capital-Journal has been publishing a series of question-and-answer sessions with the gubernatorial candidates. Here’s one with Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer and the other with Secretary of State Kris Kobach.

Deal on reducing electricity rates

Some coverage this morning from the Capital-Journal, the Wichita Eagle, WIBW and KWCH.
