George Wingert, a former four-term member of the Kansas House from Franklin County whose political career spanned 50 years, died Monday. He was 92.
Wingert ran for office in 1970 and served four terms in the Kansas House before retiring and later helping Phil Ruffin pass legislation legalizing dog racing.
During his tenure in the House, he chaired the House Committee on Governmental Organization and was vice chair of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Former Democratic Gov. John Carlin appointed Wingert to the Kansas Board of Regents, where he served from 1979 to 1982.
