Hawkins juggles committee assignments

House Speaker Dan Hawkins on Monday reshuffled some committee assignments, removing Republican state Rep. Brenda Landwehr as vice chair of the K-12 Education Budget Committee, where much of the debate on school choice bills takes place.

Hawkins is moving Landwehr off the K-12 Education Budget Committee to the House Judiciary Committee where she will replace former Republican state Rep. Fred Patton of Topeka, who recently resigned. Landwehr said she was happy with the move.

It's a significant move since Landwehr had been on the K-12 budget committee since 2017 when the Legislature rewrote the school formula . . .
