A Democratic candidate is mounting a new campaign for the Kansas House seat that was once held by Owen Donohoe, who retired from the Legislature earlier this year.
Vanessa Vaughn West, the chief culture, diversity and engagement officer at the Lathrop GPM law firm, is running again for the House District 39 seat.
West lost to Donohoe by 205 votes in 2022. The district includes parts of Bonner Springs, Lake Quivira and Shawnee.
This time, Vaughn West would face Shawnee City Council Member Angela Stiens, who is now serving out Donohoe's term in the House.
