Kelly vetoes bill prohibiting local government regulation of electric fences

Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly on Monday vetoed a bill that would prohibit local governments from regulating battery-charged security fences, a bill sought by businesses to guard against crime.

"I’ve always believed that local elected officials are best suited to make these types of policy decisions for their constituents," Kelly said in a statement.

"Local leaders and law enforcement officials, not the state government, should determine how these types of security fences are used in their communities," she said.

The bill passed the Senate SSJ
