Legislative panel cuts three major state universities, targets DEI and administrative leaders

A legislative committee on Tuesday approved a 2.5% cut in the operating budgets for the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and Wichita State while taking further steps to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion on college campuses.

The House Higher Education Budget Committee also adopted provisos that would prevent the Board of Regents from raising tuition for the 2026-27 academic year and directed state universities to prepare a report showing how they could cut administrator positions.

The proviso mandates that the universities prepare a plan for reorganizing and reallocating resources for administrative leadership positions by 10%. The plan . . .
