Leadership races in the Kansas Legislature generally don't look anything like your typical retail campaign.

No television ads. No mailers. No aggressive social media campaign. Maybe that will start to change.

Republican state Rep. Blake Carpenter has found a novel way to campaign for leadership this year: by video

Carpenter sent an email with an embedded video to lawmakers making his case for House majority whip. He is running against Rep. J.R. Claeys for the position.

It's a departure from traditional snail mail where lawmakers send letters or jot out emails campaigning for leadership positions.
