Waymaster announces congressional bid

Republican state Rep. Troy Waymaster on Tuesday joined the Republican primary for the 1st Congressional District.

Waymaster had been considering the race for months and he had indicated that he would likely run.

He was first elected to the Kansas House in 2012 and is now in his fourth term. He now serves as chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

He joins a field that already includes former Lt. Gov. Tracey Mann and eye doctor William Clifford. Democrat Kali Barnett also is seeking the seat.
