The roundup went down to wire this week with the Johnson County sheriff's Saturday response to an ethics complaint filed against him by his Republican rival in the Aug. 6 primary, Doug Bedford. News came in bits and pieces last week, marked by the death of a former House speaker who was one of only three Democrats to hold the position. Not much else to report from Shangri-La as Mrs. SSJ and I hunkered down at work, although we did enjoy a nice backyard patio gathering with friends Saturday night that was not interrupted by news . . .
