State economic forecasters on Thursday predicted modest revenue growth, leaving a possible opening for a renewed debate about taxes when the Legislature returns next month.

New consensus revenue estimates released Thursday predicted that total tax collections from 2019 to 2021 would increase $162 million more than what was predicted from last fall's estimates.

The predicted net gain in taxes is about $15 million, largely because the Legislature approved a one-time $115 million payment into the state employee pension fund SSJ
