The Kansas State Board of Education on Friday rejected Commissioner Randy Watson's resignation and suspended him for 30 days amid an uproar over an offensive comment he made about Native Americans.
State School Board Chairman Jim Porter on Friday morning revealed that Watson had submitted his resignation before adjourning into executive session to consider how to proceed. The board would not make the resignation letter public.
The board adjourned shortly after 10 a.m. and returned after about an hour and announced Watson's suspension without pay. The board met briefly with Watson in executive session. His suspension starts . . .
