Renewable energy development limits surfacing again

A vocal critic of renewable energy, the chair of the Senate utilities committee is gearing up for another fight with the wind and solar industries, introducing new bills critics say would trample property rights and hurt economic development.

Republican state Sen. Mike Thompson of Shawnee has introduced three bills that would put new restrictions on wind and solar projects in Kansas, including legislation that would allow voters to stop those types of developments in Kansas.

The bills, he said, are about protecting landowners as they negotiate leases with big energy companies.
