An assistant solicitor general and a staff attorney in the state Labor Department were among the three nominees sent to Gov. Laura Kelly to appoint to a Shawnee County judgeship.

A nominating panel recommended Assistant Solicitor General Rachel Pickering, Labor Department staff attorney Todd Thornburg and Topeka Municipal Court Administrative Judge Lori Dougherty-Bichsel for the 3rd District judgeship.

Kelly has 60 days to decide who will fill the vacancy created by the July 12 retirement of Judge Mark Braun.

The 3rd Judicial District Nominating Commission was chaired by Supreme Court Justice Marla Luckert as a nonvoting member.
