NEW: Lane stepping down from Regents to lead new literacy program

Cynthia Lane is stepping down from the Kansas Board of Regents to lead the agency's new Office of Literacy under a program established by the Legislature that's aimed at empowering teachers to help students better learn to read.

Gov. Laura Kelly appointed Lane to the Board of Regents in 2021 after she retired as superintendent of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and went on to found and become CEO of Evolve Education Leadership Consulting.

Lane will become director of literacy education, a position the Legislature created this year when it passed the SSJ
