Lawmakers want vets groups on nursing home screening panel

A bipartisan group of lawmakers are asking the head of the state's veterans affairs office to ensure that veterans service organizations have a seat on a panel that will select a site for a new veterans home in northeast Kansas.

The group of lawmakers, led by Republican state Rep. Pat Proctor of Leavenworth, wants groups such as Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion to be represented on the selection panel.

"Like your own organization, these volunteer organizations are 'in the trenches,' so to speak, serving veterans and helping them with their concerns and issues," said the letter . . .
