KNEA releases endorsements for legislative races

2006

As promised, here’s another round of legislative endorsements, this time from the Kansas National Education Association, the state’s biggest teacher’s union.

As is our custom, we only focus on endorsements in contested in primary races so it is possible that your favorite legislator (or challenger) may not be on this list.

That doesn’t mean they haven’t been endorsed in the general election, it’s just that we chose to wait until the fall to include those endorsements.

So here they are, starting with the congressional races where there are no endorsements in any primary campaigns except for the 4th District Congressional Democratic primary where it backed James Thompson over Laura Lombard. The winner faces either Congressman Ron Estes or the other Ron Estes.

There were no endorsements in the 3rd Congressional District Democratic primary with a field that includes Brent Welder, Tom Niermann, Sylvia Williams, Sharice Davids, Mike McCamon and Jay Sidie.

It also didn’t endorse any of Congressman Kevin Yoder’s little-known opponents in the GOP primary, Trevor Keegan or Joe Myers.

Among the contested races for the Board of Education, the KNEA only endorsed in the race for District 7 in the Republican primary. In that race, it backed Robert D’Andrea over Ben Jones in the Republican primary.

In District 3, the KNEA didn’t endorse in the Republican primary race between Michelle Dombrosky and Jason Winbolt.
