The Kansas NEA on Friday announced that it hired an administrator from the Kansas State Department of Education as its new executive director.
The teachers union hired David Fernkopf, assistant director of the career standards and assessment services team at the Education Department.
He steps in for Peggy Cochran, who had served as interim executive director since last fall after the former executive director suddenly left.
Fernkopf also has served as principal for the Overbrook Attendance Center in the Santa Fe Trail School District and worked as a teacher in the Seaman School District.
