Ethics complaint lodged against Hayden

A campaign consultant has filed an ethics complaint against Johnson County Sheriff Calvin Hayden, accusing him of taking a campaign contribution larger than allowed by state campaign finance law.

Dustin Morris, who works for Republican Doug Bedford's sheriff's campaign, filed the notarized complaint June 24 with the state ethics commission.

Bedford is campaigning for the GOP nomination for sheriff in the Aug. 6 primary. Morris said the complaint was filed on behalf of the Bedford campaign.

The sheriff did not respond to a request for comment.
