Republican state Senate candidate Jeff Klemp emerged as the winner in Senate District 5 after Wyandotte County officials certified their election results Friday afternoon.
Klemp, a Lansing businessman, defeated Democratic state Sen. Jeff Pittman of Leavenworth by 31 votes, sealing the 31-seat Republican supermajority in the Senate.
The Senate expanded its supermajority by two seats when Democratic Sen. Usha Reddi was defeated in Manhattan last week as well.
The House has an 88-seat Republican supermajority.
Klemp led Pittman by 70 votes after Leavenworth County officials certified their results on Wednesday.
