Kelly says loss of federal grant money cost state health department ‘vital’ jobs

The state health department eliminated 56 "vital" health jobs after President Donald Trump's administration cut $33 million in health care and mental health service grants, the governor said late Thursday afternoon.

"This marks the first large-scale state employment dismissal initiated by the Trump administration’s cuts to congressionally authorized funds," Gov. Laura Kelly said in a statement.

The Trump administration notified the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services on March 25 that six of the grants they administer were immediately terminated as of the previous day.
