Gov. Laura Kelly on Thursday named Overland Park defense lawyer Paul W. Burmaster to fill the Johnson County District Court vacancy created when Kevin Moriarty retired.
Kelly chose Burmaster from three candidates recommended by the 10th District Judicial Nominating Commission, including Michael McCulloch, the chief public defender in Johnson County and Municipal Court Judge Karen Torline.
“Paul will be an excellent judge, and I know he is ready to serve the people of Johnson County and the rest of the state on the district court,” Kelly said in a statement . . .
