Kelly moving forward with court nominee; former longtime JOCO prosecutor named a finalist

Gov. Laura Kelly is moving forward with the appointment of a new judge to fill an opening on the Kansas Court of Appeals despite a dispute over whether she can still the make the nomination.

The governor's office announced late Friday that a nominating committee had selected former Johnson County prosecutor Steve Obermeier as a finalist for the position.

Kelly will select from among Obermeier, Lawrence attorney Sarah Warner and Wichita attorney Marcia Wood for her nomination. The nomination will be made during the upcoming wrap-up session, which . . .
