Judicial elections: How candidates for governor might carry them out if passed by voters

When voters go to the polls this summer, they will decide whether Kansas voters should elect justices to the state Supreme Court.

But there are some details they won't know if the constitutional amendment passes: Would there be partisan elections; would justices be elected from districts; and how would those districts be drawn?

While voters would decide on the larger question of electing justices to the court this August, the finer points of how those elections would be carried out would be decided by the Legislature in 2027.

The next governor would likely have a say in those discussions . . .
