Judicial branch proposes adding judges for first time since ’08

Chief Justice Marla Luckert is asking the Legislature to approve 13 new district court judges and 10 district magistrate judges as well as support staff to relieve an increasingly overburdened judiciary.

In her annual state of the judiciary address to lawmakers on Tuesday, Luckert revealed a plan to request $3.5 million to fund new judges and magistrates as well as support staff that includes 13 court reporters and 13 administrative assistants.

Luckert also asked the Legislature to rework how fees fund the court system. She's proposing court fees go to the state general fund and the Legislature make . . .
