Judge clears way for state to proceed with new KanCare program

A Shawnee County judge is allowing the state to move ahead with implementing a new Medicaid program over the objection of Aetna for Better Health, which lost its bid for a renewed contract to administer the health care plan for the poor.

Shawnee County District Judge Tom Luedke denied Aetna's request to stop the state from proceeding with a new Medicaid program - known as KanCare - until a judicial review of how the contracts were awarded is completed.

Aetna's challenge to how the Medicaid contracts were awarded will continue.
