Johnson, Tyson battle for treasurer’s nomination into the morning

The Republican primary for state treasurer was still being contested into the early morning hours Wednesday with state Rep. Steven Johnson and state Sen. Caryn Tyson deadlocked at 50% with one precinct left to count.

Johnson led Tyson by 778 votes out of 426,542 votes cast, according to the secretary of state's office at about 1:20 a.m.

Johnson, of Assaria, had 213,660 votes. Tyson, of Parker, had 212,882 votes.

There were still about 37,000 ballots that had been mailed but had not been returned as of Tuesday morning.

Mail ballots have until Friday . . .
