House candidates with troubled history defeated

Voters on Tuesday booted out three Kansas lawmakers who had run into legal trouble in the last couple of years while also removing five other incumbents.

State Reps. Aaron Coleman of Kansas City, Mark Samsel of Wellsville and Suzi Carlson of Clay Center were all handed primary defeats on Tuesday night, according to unofficial results.

Meanwhile, Republican Reps. Brad Ralph of Dodge City and John Wheeler of Garden City and state Rep. John Barker of Abilene were defeated.

Melissa Oropeza, a nurse practitioner who ran for the Board of Public Utilities in 2019, won the Democratic primary in House District . . .
