House speaker optimistic about landing Chiefs, Royals

House Speaker Dan Hawkins on Friday expressed optimism about the prospect of Kansas landing the Royals and the Chiefs after a deal aimed at keeping them in Missouri collapsed in that state's legislature this week.

Hawkins said he anticipated that a deal could be reached to bring the franchises to Kansas before a state law that provides them tax incentives to build new stadiums expires at the end of June. The Legislature has an option to extend the law.
