The Kansas House on Thursday approved a bill that would make it harder for independent candidates to get on the ballot for statewide office.
The bill would require independent candidates seeking statewide office to collect signatures totaling 2% of the total votes cast for governor in the last general election.
That would increase the number of signatures from the 5,000 now set in law to the 20,186 votes cast in the last governor’s race in 2022.
