Governor vetoes bill expanding scholarship program

Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday vetoed her 19th bill of the 2025 legislative session, this time rejecting legislation expanding a program that provides financial aid to Kansans to help them cover the cost of a two-year degree or technical training program.

Kelly vetoed a bill that expanded the Kansas Promise Scholarship Program, which is now limited to limited to not-for-profit schools. The bill passed unanimously in the Senate and SSJ
