Former lawmakers are starting to fill out the makeup of the special commission that will decide salaries for the Legislature in the future.
So far, six of the nine seats on the commission have been appointed and five are former lawmakers, including former Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley of Topeka.
All initial members of the commission must be appointed by Sept. 1. The commission is required to establish a pay rate for lawmakers by Dec. 1.
Senate Majority Leader Larry Alley just appointed former state Sen. Steve Abrams of Arkansas City to the committee.
