The state ethics commission on Wednesday decided to move forward with an ethics complaint against Democratic state Senate candidate Patrick Schmidt.
The commission found probable cause to lodge a complaint against Schmidt, who is fresh from his primary victory over the top Democrat in the House, Rep. Vic Miller, and ShaMecha King Simms.
Schmidt faces Republican Tyler Wible in the general election for the Senate District 19 seat, which extends east from Topeka to Lawrence and includes Tecumseh and Lecompton. Just two years ago, he unsuccessfully ran for Congress.
The complaint accuses Schmidt of sending out mailers on July 22 . . .
