Conservatives deal moderates defeats in House

Conservative Republicans defeated four moderate House incumbents Tuesday, setting their wing of the party up for potential gains next session.

Conservatives defeated Republican state Reps. Jan Kessinger of Overland Park, Diana Dierks of Salina, Jim Karleskint of Tonganoxie and J.C. Moore of Clearwater, according to complete but unofficial results.

Conservative Republicans are now believed to hold about 56 seats in the House while moderates are believed to have 28, although those numbers can shift depending on the issue. In two of those four races, there is no Democratic opposition.
