Former Gov. Jeff Colyer on Tuesday scrambled two Kansas political races when he called on Kansas Treasurer Jake LaTurner to back out of the U.S. Senate race and mount a primary challenge against Congressman Steve Watkins.

LaTurner said he would consider a run for Congress representing the southeast part of the state where he grew up and later was elected to the Kansas Senate. If LaTurner decides to run for Congress, it would narrow a crowded field for the U.S. Senate.
