Cecil O'Brate, a western Kansas industrialist known for his generosity and work ethic, died Saturday in Garden City. He was 95.
An Oklahoma native, O’Brate was the founder and chief executive of American Warrior Inc., one of the largest independently owned oil and gas production companies in Kansas.
He also was regarded as a key player in Kansas politics who would put money behind the candidates he supported.
In recent years, O’Brate had given millions in donations, including $35 million to Oklahoma State University — his alma mater — to build a new baseball stadium and more than $7 . . .
