Candidates can accept donations from third parties that process campaign donations so long as they identify the specific donor, a new ethics opinion says.
The state ethics commission approved an opinion Wednesday that was intended to address concerns raised by legislators who had received checks that appeared to be from the online fundraising company known as Democracy Engine.
The checks were accompanied with a letter telling lawmakers that they could learn the donor if they registered for the company's website.
