Legislature hires former Emporia State president to evaluate higher ed budget

Legislative leaders on Thursday voted to hire recently retired Emporia State University President Ken Hush to help lawmakers scrub the higher education budget during the upcoming legislative session.

The Legislative Coordinating Council voted 5-2 to hire Hush, who retired in December after leading the university for about five years.

He will be employed for five months at $10,000 a month.

"He has intimate insight into the higher-ed budget arena," House Speaker Dan Hawkins said.

"Having an opportunity to have a person like that (who) does have intimate knowledge of the higher ed budget, I thought it was . . .
