Governor’s Regents nomination stalls over WSU ‘disparaging’ remarks

One of Gov. Laura Kelly's two nominees to the Kansas Board of Regents failed to get out of a Senate committee Wednesday because of "disparaging" remarks he made about one of the state's research universities.

The Senate Confirmation Oversight Committee approved six of the governor's nominees for positions ranging from brigadier general of the Kansas National Guard to the Public Employee Relations Board to the University of Kansas Hospital Authority.

But it was one of the governor's nominees to the Kansas Board of Regents - Peter Johnston of Salina - who ran into tough questioning from Senate President . . .
