K-State employee criticized for supporting Hamas suspended, gubernatorial candidates say

A civil rights investigator at Kansas State University who has come under fire for public comments he made about supporting Hamas after it attacked Israel in 2023 has been suspended, two major candidates for governor said Thursday.

Republican former Gov. Jeff Colyer and Senate President Ty Masterson - both running for governor in 2026 - revealed Thursday that Derron Borders had been suspended by the university. Borders was an investigator in K-State's Civil Rights and Title IX office.

"I am pleased to report that K-State responded swiftly, suspending Borders pending a thorough investigation into his hiring and conduct," Masterson . . .
