Gov. Laura Kelly on Monday tapped Commerce Secretary David Toland as her new lieutenant governor, setting up a new ticket for her to run on if she decides to seek reelection in 2022.
A rising star in the Democratic Party with a known ability for raising money, Toland replaces Lynn Rogers who is moving over to become state treasurer with Republican Jake LaTurner's election to Congress.
Toland will remain as commerce secretary, similar to how the state's lieutenant governor once doubled as commerce secretary about 20 years ago.
