U.S. Senate confirms Kansan to federal appeals court

The U.S. Senate early Monday night confirmed federal public defender Richard Federico of Kansas for a seat on the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Senate confirmed Federico on a vote of 61-29 with support from U.S. Sens. Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall.

Nominated by President Joe Biden, Federico overcame questions from some Republican senators about whether he was soft on crime.

Federico replaces Mary Beck Briscoe, a Bill Clinton appointee, who took senior status in March 2021 . . .
